The pandemic and some faith
That wasn't exactly what the magazine's art director had requested – some still images of religious symbols – but they ended up being my greatest challenge as a photographer in a long time.
It was impossible to ignore the devastation we were experiencing. It was important to think, piece together, remember, and re-experience everything that this vile virus had brought us; it was excruciatingly painful, bitter, and gloomy... Oh, I don't need to keep looking for adjectives. Everyone already knows, right?
Nonetheless, it served as a tiny cleansing of so many ills carried with difficulty beyond my capacity.
Broken pieces and ties, chains locking, mismatched gears, stained bonds, forgotten friendships, dull love, suffocating air, saddened dreams, so much dirt to sanitise, so many inhuman people, so many unsolved questions, being alone and just surviving. And do you want to discuss hope and faith? What the fuck!
Smiling, singing, dancing... things that used to be a part of my existence as an optimistic goofball still demand you to exercise muscles that I shouldn't even have anymore.
But, almost against my will, I continue to believe that any faith, whatever it may be, can bring us closer to the colourful, sweet, and lovely divine.
Deceived? Why not? That we can persevere and that success is not far away!
